“Testing leads to failure and failure leads to understanding.” Burt Rutan, aircraft designer
I spent two hours today working on a painting only to sand everything once it dried. I was testing my ability to find patterns and pull them together like a puzzle, but for my eye there were too many pieces, too many angles.
Normally, this would have been a real bummer. I hate starting over and begin to wonder why I can’t get it right the first time. But I was actually happy about it this time because I had figured something out —in this case, what wouldn’t work.
That’s just as important as knowing what will.
