If there is a piece of art I like on a site, I will often go to that artist’s website to view other pieces. Sometimes I am lucky, and there is something on YouTube― a video of an exhibit, one explaining the work, or even a demonstration.
Too often though I see critical comments. Why do other artists feel it necessary to make unfavorable, and sometimes rude, comments when a fellow artist has clearly been open and very generous in showing their work and their process? It takes a brave person to share so openly these days.
Other artists at different times have also expressed the sentiments in this blog, but I feel the need to underscore the point. If we don’t agree with an artist’s point of view, or heaven forbid like the brand of paint they use, public criticism serves absolutely no purpose. This profession is difficult enough. Artists need the support of other artists. If you can’t say something nice…
Why not use your blog this week to share the work of a fellow artist.
